This research seeks Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing capabilities that can analyze free-text clinical documentation to recommend appropriate ICD-10-CM external cause of injury codes in near real-time.
Integrating these technologies into the broader Military Health System aims to significantly reduce the administrative data-entry burden currently placed on clinical providers. Automating this process will also enhance the completeness, specificity, and timeliness of critical injury data, which is essential for tracking trends and maintaining Force readiness.
